Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) says it wants the 20 May tripartite elections to be free and fair for the results to be credible.

CCJP programmes coordinator Beatrice Mateyo Mkanda made the observation during a two-day training for Dedza CCJP volunteers who will work as CCJP monitors during the elections.

“For everyone to trust the results of the elections, they must be fair and free. And for Malawi to achieve free and fair elections, CCJP is helping with capacity building. We are training 150 people in Dedza, Mzuzu and Kalonga to monitor the elections to avoid irregularities.

“We want them to be aware of various issues so that if they notice anything suspicious before or during elections, they should immediately report to relevant authorities,” said Mkanda.
